Changes ToTraffic Laws

Under Spain’s new traffic law, published in the Boletín Oficial del Estado (BOE), seven traffic offences will no longer incur points on driving licences, though they can still incur fines. The new rules will apply from 25th November 2009:

* Driving on motorways or dual carriageways with prohibited vehicles
* Driving with more than 50% more occupants than the vehicle is equipped for.
* Parking or stopping on bends, hills, tunnels, junctions or any other dangerous places
* Parking or stopping in a bus lane
* Driving without lights when they are required
* Riding motorbikes or mopeds with under 12 year olds as passengers
* Reckless driving causing danger to other road users

Spanish Driving Licence Renewals - November 2009

No postal Spanish Driving Licence renewal reminders have been sent out in Tenerife since June/July 2009 and according to a Santa Cruz functionary there are no plans to reinistate the reminder system anytime soon! So check your expiry date because driving without an in date licence will attract a fine.

Some medical centres will take care of the whole thing for you when you go to take your test, but others will not. So that means a trip to Santa Cruz.

The One Stop Problem shop can take care of the renewal for you if you are not comfortable going to Trafico -or you just can't be bothered!!!
